Molding Equipment
Molding Equipment can benefit from the use of special thermal insulation materials that help control the mold temperature. Mold platen insulation lowers energy costs by maintaining mold temperature. Mold platen insulation is commonly used in the following types of injection and compression molding presses:
- Thermoplastic Molding Presses
- Thermoset Plastic Molding Presses
- Rubber Molding Presses
Mold platen insulation is used on both sides of the mold in order to control mold temperature and conserve energy losses. Tight tolerance parts can benefit from the advantages of better mold temperature control.

Common mold platen materials include:
- Glass Polyester Laminate Grade MPI
- Glass Polyester Laminate Grade Thermalate H320 & H330
- Glass Polyester Laminate Grade Glastherm S & HT
- Glass Epoxy Laminate Grade Isoval R
- Glass Silicone Laminate Grade G-7
- Silicone Bonded Mica Laminate Grade 505.3M
- Cement Board Grade H-91
- Calcium Silicate Grade CS-85
- Calcium Silicate Marinite Grades I, A, & P
- Ceramic Fiber Board Grades SG-50 & SG-70
